SSOTD: Third-Grader’s Artwork Showcased at Harry Reid International Airport

Evelyn Hernandez, a third-grader at Gene Ward Elementary School in Las Vegas, is getting city-wide recognition for the vibrant art work she created. She was chosen to feature her Mother Nature artwork on a billboard that is located at Harry Reid International Airport. Hernandez’s larger-than-life artwork had a unique interpretation of the semester’s theme, which was “Springtime in the Desert." Hernandez’s expresses how much she loves flowers and plants, and that is why she chose to spotlight Mother Nature in her work of art. She put all the flowers on the billboard to make it look like a forest. Hernandez, at the age of four, became interested in art after seeing her parents draw. Her art is being brought to life due to the partnership between the Office of County Commissioner Jim Gibson and Connell Outdoor Advertising. Twice a year, the initiative promotes and celebrates the talent of young artists within the community. Jim Gibson and Connell Outdor Advertising are proud to be part of this initiative that allows young artists to showcase their work. Evelyn Hernandez sure has a bright future ahead of her.
